The destroyed Ilyushin Il-62
  • On July 24, 2009 at 6:10 p.m., an Ilyushin Il-62 with the registration number UP-16208 , leased by Aria Air , which was built in 1989 but was rarely flown , was destroyed at Mashhad International Airport when it landed . 17 people including CEO Mehdi Dadpei, his son and 13 crew members were killed; another 19 were injured. The reason was that the pilot landed the machine relatively late and too quickly (at 317 km / h instead of the permitted 250 km / h) on the 3800-meter-long runway 13L . As a result, the machine rolled over the end of the runway and hit a mound about 1000 meters later, destroying the front fuselage section. The machine was only leased to the airline in May 2009 and previously belonged to Interflug's inventory (license plate DDR-SEY ).
