Lists on the subject |
The DM2A4 hake is a heavy torpedo that was specially developed for the German submarine class 212 , where DM stands for " German model ". With a diameter of 533 mm (21 inches), the torpedo corresponds to the NATO standard .
development
The torpedo DM2A4 “Seehecht” - export name “Seahake Mod 4” - developed by STN Atlas Elektronik is a further development of the torpedo DM2A3, which was already introduced on the submarine class 206 . The DM2A4 is a light guide - guided multi-purpose torpedo for combating surface and underwater targets.
technology
It can be used from surface ships as well as from submarines . Its operating depth is up to 300 m. The assembly is carried out with one to four ZnAgO compact batteries depending on the application and the order . In the standard configuration with four batteries, the torpedo with wire cassette is seven meters long. It is driven by a permanent magnet motor. If the fiber optic cable has run out, the on-board electronics of the torpedo control the attack. The torpedo head contains the two sensors, the torpedo sonar and the wake sensor. With these passive and active sensors, the torpedo goes in search of its target. If the torpedo misses the target, the electronics can control a second attack ("re-attack"). The probability of detection of the extremely quiet torpedo is said to be very low. In order to ensure that the start causes as little noise as possible, the torpedo is silently pushed out of the tube with water . Only then do the two screws start to run.
variants
The DM2A4 is also available in a cheaper version with only one battery and without wire steering as the "Medium Speed and Range Wake Homing Torpedo". Its length here is four meters.
Thanks to its modular concept, it should be further expandable and modifiable for the future. By installing a special payload module, it can be used as an underwater drone (Unmanned Undersea Vehicle / UUV).
