DOMI A / S (abbreviation for Dansk Oversøisk Motor Industri ) was a Danish automobile manufacturer, dealer and importer based in Glostrup .

history

DOMI was founded in 1946 by Svend Nellemann as a subsidiary of Nellemann Holding A / S. The original purpose of the company was to manufacture and assemble buses and commercial vehicles.

DOMI imported Morris , MG , Riley , Wolseley and Nuffield tractors, Land Rover and Rover, and Morris and Leyland trucks. The range was later expanded to include John Deere tractors and the Japanese brands Daihatsu and Subaru .

In the 1950s DOMI took over the representation of other manufacturers: Borgward, Chrysler and Plymouth (briefly) as well as BMW (1956 to 1958). In addition, some British vehicles were made from CKD kits.

In 1972 DOMI took over the Austin importer DFA ( De Forenede Automobilfabrikker A / S ) at the instigation of BMC - which also took a 20% stake in DOMI - and thus became the sole importer. In addition, DOMI also imported vehicles from Triumph and Jaguar .

Between 1972/73 and 1977 DOMI was the largest automobile importer in Denmark.

DOMI was dissolved in the 1990s.

Models

An in-house creation based on the Morris Minor was the Morris DOMI panel van , in which the rear body area was made of sheet steel, which was lower but longer than the production model and thus had more loading volume. Some models were also given different names: The six-cylinder models from Wolseley had the uniform model name Wolseley 300 .
