Wörwag Pharma ( proper spelling in capital letters) is an independent, medium - sized, family - run pharmaceutical company based in Böblingen . It was founded in 1971 by Fritz Wörwag, a pharmacist , and sells both prescription and over-the-counter products and dietary supplements . Wörwag Pharma has specialized in so-called biofactors. These include, for example, vitamins , minerals and trace elements .

history

Foundation phase

In 1965 the city pharmacy was founded in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart . At the beginning of the 1970s, the owner Fritz Wörwag began to manufacture and sell his own pharmaceuticals. This formed the basis for the foundation of Wörwag Pharma in 1971. Among the best known specimens of the first year included Magnerot Classic ( magnesium - orotate ) and Milgamma ( benfotiamine ). To accelerate the development of the business, the company was converted into a corporation in 1977 .

internationalization

Wörwag Pharma developed into a specialist for vitamins and trace elements , but also has a name as a manufacturer of generics . As the first international location outside Germany, a branch was opened in Hungary in 1993, later further branches were added in Eastern Europe , Russia and Central Asia . Wörwag Pharma is now also present in Asian and South American countries, for example in Vietnam and Peru.

Generation change

In 1996, Wörwag Pharma moved its headquarters from Stuttgart to Böblingen. In 2001 the two children Marcus Wörwag and Monika Wörwag took over the management of the company from their father. They continued Wörwag Pharma's expansion course, concentrating above all on biofactors. In 2015 they spun off the generics business to the independent subsidiary AAA-Pharma. In January 2019, Marcus Wörwag moved from the company's management to the advisory board, where he continues to help shape the group's strategic direction.

Products

Wörwag Pharma offers drugs for the prevention and treatment of diabetic comorbidities and secondary diseases, of neuralgia and pain, as well as for maintaining mental fitness. The company's product range comprises a total of 26 biofactor brands in Germany alone. Magnerot and Milgamma are still two strong brands in the Wörwag Pharma range.
