The Danish series DSB MV (I) consisted of two diesel-electric locomotives that Danske Statsbaner ( German  Danish State Railways ) procured in 1929 to replace steam locomotives in passenger service.

history

The two diesel locomotives of the MV (I) series were specially built to replace steam locomotives in passenger traffic. They were ordered from the Frichs locomotive factory in Aarhus at a price of 184,250 kroner and delivered in 1929 with construction numbers 89 and 90.

MV 115 was delivered on May 25, 1929, and the DSB commissioned it on June 10. MV 116 was handed over to operations on June 29th.

The maximum train weight that the locomotives were allowed to carry was 200 tons.

Technical Equipment

The locomotive body was made of aluminum . In the delivery condition, the two locomotives had a six-cylinder diesel engine 672C from Frichs. There were also two electric traction motors from Titan. A cargo compartment with a capacity of two tons was available for the transport of luggage. A steam boiler was installed to heat the passenger coaches .

The locomotives were equipped with three braking systems: compressed air brakes, suction air brakes and throwing lever hand brakes. In 1933 a Siemens speedometer was installed.

The steam boilers were taken out of service as early as 1936. In 1940 the boilers were expanded and the free space was used for another cargo compartment, so that from this point four tons of luggage could be loaded into the locomotive.

In 1947 the engine was replaced and the more powerful six-cylinder Frichs 6285CL diesel engine was installed. In the same year MV 116 was equipped with a coke-fired hot water heating system.

Stakes and whereabouts

The MV 115 was first assigned to the Frederikssundbane between Copenhagen and Frederikssund on the island of Zealand , but only stayed there for a few weeks. Then it moved to the Tønder remise in Tønder . From 1936 the mission took place from Aarhus.

The MV 116 was immediately taken to the Tondern depot, where it remained until 1936, when it was moved to Aarhus.

During the Second World War , the locomotives were parked from 1941 to 1943. After being put back into operation, they remained in the previous area of operation.

MV 115 was retired on December 22, 1955 and was parked in Aarhus from 1955 to 1959. In 1959 it was sold to the HI Hansen company in Odense for scrapping . MV 116 was retired on January 8, 1955 and also scrapped.
