The DT-54 ( Russian ДТ-54 ) is a Soviet chain tractor that was manufactured in various tractor factories from 1949. Almost a million copies were built by 1979. There are various designs and modifications, including models with a dozer blade that can be used as a bulldozer .
Vehicle history
Production of the DT-54 began in both Stalingrad and Kharkov in 1949 . In the Charkowski Traktorny Sawod (igtenТЗ for short) as well as in the Stalingradski Traktorny Sawod (СТЗ), he replaced the SChTS-NATI , which was manufactured before the Second World War . In 1952, Altaiski Traktorny Zavod (АТЗ) began producing tractors. Historically, this work is closely related to the Charkowski Traktorny Sawod.
In 1957, the vehicle was slightly redesigned, and from that point on it was also available with hydraulic equipment. As early as 1956 there was a version for less stable subsoil. In 1958, various changes were made to the vehicles in Stalingrad, including visually visible changes to the body.
In 1961, Stalingrad was renamed Volgograd. Accordingly, the name of the tractor plant changed to Volgogradsky Traktorny Zavod (ВгТЗ). In the same year, the Kharkov plant stopped production of the DT-54 in favor of the more powerful successor T-74 . Two years later, production in Volgograd was also stopped. From that point on, only the Altaiski Traktorny Zavod DT-54 tractors were built. The last one did not roll off the production line until 16 years later, in 1979. By then, a total of 957,900 copies had been produced in all plants. The Altaiski Traktorny Sawod built the T-4 chain tractor as a successor to the DT-54 as early as 1964 . In Volgograd, the DT-75 rolled off the production line from around 1963 .
The built-in engine of type D-54 is a four-cylinder diesel engine that works in the four-stroke process. During the production time, performance increases up to 65 hp were made several times. The original output was 54 hp in 1949. A five-speed manual gearbox was used as the transmission, the forward speed of the tractor was between 3.59 and 7.90 km / h.
Model variants
The following list is not necessarily complete, but is intended to provide an overview of the most important built model versions.
- DT-54 - basic version, built from 1949 to 1957 by various manufacturers.
- DT-54A - Revised version, built from 1957 to 1963. A hydraulic system was partially installed, which was structured differently depending on the requirements. This resulted in a total of four variants, designated DT-54A-S1 to -S4.
- D-444 - DT-54A equipped as a bulldozer.
- DT-55 - Built from 1956 in Stalingrad, specially designed for particularly soft floors. Wider chains were installed and a different transmission was installed. The weight increased to over six tons.
- DT-55A - Manufactured from 1958. The same modifications were made as to the DT-54A, again there were four identically named versions.
- DT-56 - Also known as DT-54-W, built in Stalingrad from 1958. The body was changed and made more contemporary, and a more powerful engine with 65 hp and a modified transmission were installed.
- DT-57 - Special version with an extended frame for working on steep slopes, built in Stalingrad from 1958.
- GB-58 - Version of the DT-54 with wood gas drive , nothing is known about series production.
- DT-60 - Agricultural tractor with a revised engine that now made 60 hp.
