Dactylocladus stenostachys is a tree in the Crypteroniaceae family from Borneo . It is the only species in the genus Dactylocladus .

description

Dactylocladus stenostachys grows as an evergreen tree up to 40 meters high. The trunk diameter reaches up to 120-150 centimeters. There are pneumatophores and adventitious roots formed. The reddish to grayish-brown bark is more or less cracked to scaly.

The simple, leathery and bare, short-stalked leaves are opposite. The short petiole is up to 5 millimeters long. The entire leaves with a slightly bent edge are ovate to obovate or elliptical. They are about 4–12 inches long and 2.5–5 inches wide. At the top they are rounded or rounded to pointed. The veins are pinnate with indistinct lateral veins. The stipules are minimal.

There are erect, terminal or axillary panicles with many-flowered and racemose side branches. Declining, minimal bracts are formed on the lateral axes and near the flowers . The hermaphrodite, almost sessile, very small and white flowers are four to five-fold with a double flower envelope . There is a small, hairy flower cup about 2 millimeters long and very small, dirty sepals. The petals, which fall off early and are nailed short , are hairy on the outside and about 1 millimeter long. There are 5 very short stamens with slightly hairy stamens. The multi-chambered, upper surface hairy ovary is semi-inferior with short, priemlichem and easy feinhaarigem pen with capitate stigma .

Small, yellow-green, about 3–4 millimeters in size, multi-seeded, fine-haired, loculicidal capsule fruits ( false fruit ) with remains of the style, in the attached flower base , with a permanent calyx are formed. When the long-pointed valves open, they are often connected in a curved manner at the tip with the permanent, non-dividing, stylus remnant (frame capsule). The flat, narrow-elliptical, about 10 seeds are all around short winged and are 2.5-3 millimeters long and about 1 millimeter wide with membranous wings.

Taxonomy

The first description of the genus Dactylocladus and the species Dactylocladus stenostachys was made in 1895 by Daniel Oliver in Hooker's Icon. Pl. 24: t. 2351.

use

The relatively light to medium-weight, non-durable, relatively soft wood is known as Jongkong or Merebong , Merubong .
