life and work
Dagmar Edqvist is the daughter of Hjalmar Jansson and Hermanna Jansson, b. Krokstedt. In 1923, a year after graduating from high school, she married Torgny Edqvist and attended the University of Dijon , France . She made her novel debut in 1932 with Kamrathustru , published by the Stockholm publishing house Bonnier , which was to remain her regular publisher. The first German-language edition appeared in 1943 with the Swiss publisher Orell Füssli under the title Frau und Kamerad . Orell Füssli published all other novels by the author that were published in German until 1968 - and is the only publisher to this day. The books were translated by Hildegard Johanna Kaeser .
Kamrathustru , Rymlingen almost , Fallet Ingegerd Bremssen and Musik i mörker were filmed, the latter by the director Ingmar Bergman (Eng. Music in the Dark ). With the exception of Kamrathustru , all of the books were adapted by herself for the screen. She wrote the original script for Sven Nykvist's Lianbron based on an idea from Nykvist.
