from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hildegard Johanna Kaeser (born April 4, 1904 in Berlin ; died March 26, 1965 in Norrviken near Stockholm ) was a German journalist, author of novels, books for young people and biographies as well as a translator.

Her works have been translated into numerous languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, Dutch, French and English.

Life

Hildegard Johanna Zander was Jewish. In 1930 she married the non-Jew Walter Kaeser. Until the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Kaeser worked as a journalist and editor of the magazines Der hehre Fridolin and Tempo at Ullstein Verlag in Berlin. Prevented by the Nazi race laws from continuing to practice their profession, the couple emigrated to Denmark via France. From 1935 they lived in Sweden, where Kaeser began to work as an author of books for young people, which first appeared in Swedish translation. Her best-known books, especially in the Anglo-Saxon region, include the four books about a boy named Mimff who experiences various adventures. In the following years she also published a number of upscale entertainment novels in the Swiss Orell Füssli publishing house, in which the fates of emigrants often play a role. Finally, she wrote a successful series of biographies and biographical narratives that appeared in the series “Bragd och hjältedåd” (heroic deeds) by Harrier-Verlag in Stockholm. Finally, she also translated ten novels by Dagmar Edqvist into German.

Kaeser committed suicide on March 26, 1965, four days after her husband's death.
