Dainius Pūras

Dainius Pūras (born February 7, 1958 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian doctor, child and adolescent psychiatrist , professor of Vilnius University (VU), liberal politician of the Vilnius municipality .

Life

After graduating from high school, Pūras studied medicine in 1981 and from 1983 to 1986 the aspirantur at VU. In 1988 he received his doctorate in psychiatry on the subject of "Moderate and severe intellectual disabilities of children in the population of the city of Vilnius". Pūras continued his education at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Pūras is head of the Center for Child Psychiatry and Social Pediatrics at the Psychiatry Clinic of the Medical Faculty of VU. From 2000 to 2002 he was dean of the faculty. He has been a professor since 2012. From 1994 to 1999 he was the director of the Child Development Center and from 1989 to 2001 he worked at the Ministry of Health of Lithuania . From 2003 to 2011 he was a member of the Vilnius Municipality Council . He now works at the Vilnius Children's Hospital in Santariškės .

From 1990 to 1992 Pūras was the first president of the Association of Psychiatrists of Lithuania ( Lietuvos psichiatrų asociacija ) and the Baltic Association for Rehabilitation (from 1997 to 2002 vice-president), chairman of the board of VšĮ “Globali iniciatyva psichiatrijoje” and Žmogaus teisių stebėjimo institutas , board member of the Lithuanian association the child and youth psychiatrist.

From 2003 Pūras was a member of Liberalų ir centro sąjunga and from 2006 to 2012 of Lietuvos Respublikos liberalų sąjūdis .

Since 2014 he has been the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health.

Pūras is divorced and has a daughter and a son.
