As daisy chain ( Engl. , Daisy chain ') refers to a number of hardware - components , which are connected in series with each other - usually in so-called bus systems in the automation technology .

The first component is directly connected to a computing system ( computer , bus). The other components are now connected to their predecessors (series connection principle), creating a chain (therefore called a daisy chain ). The signal to and from a component now goes through its predecessor to the computer system. With this connection of the components, it is important that priorities can be assigned. It can thus be specified that information can only be transmitted, for example, when the line is free, or that some components have unconditional priority over others. This prevents conflicts and malfunctions.
