Dalsa is a Canadian developer and manufacturer of electronic components and devices, primarily CCD and CMOS sensors and digital cinema cameras . The company was founded in 1980 by Professor Savvas Chamberlain in Waterloo , Canada , who had previously taught at the local university .

history

After it was founded, DALSA went public in 1984. The company has been listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange since 1996 and with around 700 employees and sales of over 100 million dollars has become one of the leading providers of semiconductor technology, cameras and image sensors. In 2007, Dalsa was voted one of Canada's Top 100 Employers.

Dalsa is one of the few manufacturers of digital cameras that has vertically integrated manufacturing. The company operates a "chip forge" and is still one of the camera manufacturers who use both CCD sensors and CMOS sensors .

Branches

In addition to the headquarters in Waterloo, DALSA has now expanded its activities with branches in Colorado Springs , Billerica , San Juan Capistrano , Bromont , Montreal , and Eindhoven ; there are further sales offices in Germany and Japan.

Products

Dalsa manufactures a wide range of different products for industrial electronic image processing. Since 2006, the company has also been operating camera rental for cinema productions near Los Angeles. Relevant products include cameras for NASA's most recent unmanned missions to Mars , the first 4K digital cinema camera Origin or the first image sensor with over 100 million pixels, a CCD sensor with 111 million picture elements.
