The perinealers ( Nebria ) are a genus of beetles from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae) within the subfamily Nebriinae . It occurs in Europe with 172 species and subspecies, 19 are also native to Central Europe.
features
The beetles are medium in size with a heart-shaped pronotum and long thin legs. They differ from the bearded runners ( Leistus ) by their normally developed mandibles and maxillae . The larvae also look similar to those of the bearded runners, but have a more compact body. Your head is less strong and the thoracic ring is less elongated. Their cerci are heavily bristled.
Occurrence and way of life
The nocturnal animals are agile runners and live near flowing waters, especially in montane to subalpine locations, but also in flatlands and also on the edge of snowfields under stones. They prefer wet habitats, but are not limited to them. They feed on springtails (Collembola).
