Dan Barker

Dan Barker (born June 25, 1949 ) is an American civil rights activist, musician, composer and author. He gained notoriety through his commitment to the separation of religion and state .

Life

Barker is a member of the Lenni Lenape Native American tribe . He studied at an evangelical university and then worked as a Christian preacher. He was also active as a musician with Christian pieces and wrote numerous pieces himself.

In the course of time he saw points of criticism of the religion and viewed the working methods of religious communities critically, as a result of which the religious critic confessed to atheism from 1984 onwards . Together with his wife Annie Laurie Gaylor , he is President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation , a civil rights organization that advocates the separation of religion and state . Barker hosts Freethought Radio , which has aired interviews with Richard Dawkins , Sam Harris , Steven Pinker , Julia Sweeney and Michael Newdow . Barker is a member of the Prometheus Society , whose entry requirement is an intelligence quotient higher than 99.997% of the population.
