Daniel Keenan Savage (born October 7, 1964 in Chicago ) is an American journalist and author .

He gained national fame through his sex advisor column Savage Love , which appears weekly in several dozen newspapers. Savage is openly gay and active in the US lesbian and gay movement . He lives in Seattle with his husband ; the couple are married under Canadian law and have adopted a son . He wrote The Kid about his experience as an adoptive father .

Savage Love

The advice column Savage Love first appeared in 1991 in the Seattle free newspaper The Stranger , where Savage still works today. With its unusually explicit style and savage's pronounced advocacy of sexual freedom and recognition of deviant sexual practices (within the framework of the principle of Safe, Sane, Consensual ), the column quickly achieved great popularity and is now featured in numerous newspapers in the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia printed. In North America, Savage coined a number of sexual neologisms through the column . A weekly podcast has also been published since 2006 .

It gets better

In 2010 Savage started the It gets better project . Video messages are collected there that encourage homosexual young people. In this way, the high suicide rate should be reduced.
