Dan Ziegler

Dan Ziegler (born January 21, 1957 ) is a German physician specializing in diabetic polyneuropathy , cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy , and diabetic gastroparesis ; erectile dysfunction , endothelial dysfunction, and central nervous dysfunction in diabetes.

Life

From 1977 to 1983 Ziegler studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg . In 1983 he passed the medical examination and received his license to practice medicine in the same year . In 1984 he did his doctorate at the Medical Clinic of the University of Heidelberg on the subject of radioimmunoassay for human parathyroid hormone (53-84): coupling of hPTH (53-84) to thyroglobulin to generate antibodies and use of tyrosylated and non-tyrosylated peptide as tracer . In 1990 he was recognized as a doctor of internal medicine . Two years later, in 1993, he received the license to teach internal medicine, after having worked in the same year at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf on the subject of diabetic neuropathy: characterization, early diagnosis, natural progression, metabolic influencing factors and the effects of a pathogenetically based intervention qualified as a professor . In 1998 he was appointed adjunct professor.

Scientific activity

Ziegler is the author of over 200 original and review articles in international journals and books. He also wrote several textbooks. He is a member of expert committees for the development of guidelines for national diabetes societies: DDG: Diabetic Neuropathy since 2000 and ADA: Consensus Report on Diabetic Neuropathy since 2004

• Recognition of quality in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism by the European Board of Endocrinology of the UEMS (2001)
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP Edin) (2003)
