Dana Wilson (rugby player)

Jonathan "Dana" Wilson (born May 22, 1983 in Auckland , † September 4, 2011 near Burtonwood , United Kingdom ) was a New Zealand rugby league player .

Life

Wilson first played in the New Zealand U-16 and U-18 area before he became active for the Cook Islands , his parents' home. In 2006 he took part with the national team of the Cook Islands in the qualifications for the Rugby League World Cup.

In February 2005 he went to England, where he played for the Oldham Roughyeds . In 2006 he joined the Leigh Centurions . For this, Wilson scored the decisive goal against the Hull Kingston Rovers at the final of the Northern Rail Cup 2006 in Blackpool . In 2009 he was transferred to the Halifax RLFC . In 2010, Wilson finally joined the Swinton Lions . Before moving to England, he had played one season for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles , a club from Sydney .

Wilson died in a traffic accident at the age of 28. He was married and had three children.
