Danbury is a city in Brazoria County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
Geography and history
The city is located a little east of the center of the county, in southeast Texas, is about 20 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 2.5 km² without any significant water surface. When the Missouri Pacific Railroad was built in 1905-06, there were only a few isolated farms and ranches in the area. The construction of the railroad attracted new settlers and Danbury was founded, named either after railway manager DJ "Uncle Dan" Moller or after Daniel T. Miller.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 1,611 people lived here in 554 households and 442 families. The population density was 647.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 90.38% White, 0.62% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 6.15% other ethnic groups. About 2.30% were mixed race and 15.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 554 households, 46.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.7% of them were married couples living together. 11.6% were single mothers and 20.2% were non-families. 18.1% of all households were single households and 7.8% had people living in it who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.30.
31.9% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.9% 18 to 24, 29.5% 25 to 44, 20.4% 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 99.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 50,536 , and the median income for a family is $ 56,250. Males had a median income of $ 44,250 versus females of $ 25,893. The per capita income was $ 17,565. 7.6% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. 9.2% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.9% were 65 or older.
