action

At the Abby Lee Dance Company in Pittsburgh, owned and operated by dance teacher Abby Lee Miller , young girls aged 9 to 13 learn to dance at a professional level. They travel to various dance competitions week after week and hope to receive an invitation to one of the national dance competitions. It shows the highs and lows of the competition season and the dramas on the way to becoming a national dance title. Rivalries develop between the mothers. The dances are mostly choreographed by Miller and her staff , with the exception of a few guest choreographers. Competing dance teams were also later introduced. In season 5, Miller brings the group to Los Angeles.

Due to the increasing age of the elite team, Miller introduced a so-called mini team in the 6th season, consisting of 6 to 11 year olds. In season 7, however, she disbanded the mini team, only keeping two of the original 5 dancers. In the second half of Season 7, Kendall, Kalani, Nia and Camryn separated from Miller and formed a new dance group called "The Irreplaceables" which now competed against the Abby Lee Dance Center, took Chloe into their team and trained by Cheryl Burke were. Miller and the dancers on her rest of the dance team left the show a few episodes before the season ended.

Characters

  • Abby Lee Miller founded her own dance school when she was 14 . She is the owner and chief choreographer of the ALDC. She competes with the dancers in the United States . With the mothers, with the exception of Melissa, she is very unpopular, as she is not afraid to yell at both the girls and their parents and punish them. In season 6, Abby is suspected of financial fraud, which is why she often has little time for the Junior Elite Team. In the middle of season 7.5 Miller left the show after half of the team broke up with her and formed a new dance group, after many conflicts and due to their imminent prison sentence.
  • Gianna Martello is a lecturer for all dance genres. She is also a choreography assistant for the ALDC Junior Elite Competition Team.
  • Melissa Gisoni is the mother of Maddie and Mackenzie. She wants to advance her daughters' careers, so she often tries to do what Abby expects her to do. She doesn't shy away from giving gifts to Abby so that her children can have solos. The other mothers are often annoyed by Melissa because of this. Of herself, she says that dancing ruined her marriage, but her new husband continues to pay the bills. After the first half of season 6, Gisoni left the show with her two daughters in order to have more time for their children's careers.
  • Kelly Miller-Hyland is the mother of Paige and Brooke. She used to take lessons from Abby herself and has known her all her life. Nevertheless, she often argues with Abby because she complains about her children and describes them as stupid. For this reason Miller-Hyland left the show with her two daughters in the fourth season and broke the contract with the ALDC, so that Brooke and Paige no longer take lessons there.
  • Christi Lukasiak is the mother of Chloe. She is very good friends with Kelly and is therefore not liked by Abby either. Christi herself says she had a tough childhood so she wanted to make sure that Chloe had things better than herself. Christi also finds it unfair that Maddie is always preferred, even though she thinks Chloe is just as talented. For this reason, she often argues with Abby and left the show shortly after Kelly in the fourth season after Miller poked fun at Chloe's eye in an argument and broke the contract with Abby Lee Miller. At the end of the first half of the seventh season, Chloe and Christi return to the show, first joining rival Abby's dance studio MDP and later the newly formed dance group "The Irreplaceables" by Camryn, Nia, Kalani and Kendall.
  • Holly Frazier is the mother of Nia. She has several university degrees and works as a school director. However, she later gave up her job in order to be able to concentrate fully on Nia's dancing. Holly is popular with everyone, but holds back when there is an argument with Abby, knowing that she will get stuck with her discussions. It is more important to her that Nia develops a good personality than becoming the best dancer. Holly and Nia are the only cast members who have appeared on each season of the series.
  • Jill Vertes is the mother of Kendall. Her only goal is for Kendall to be the best dancer. In Season 2, she briefly moves to Candy Apple's Dance Center, but soon comes back to Abby's team. (This dance studio change was only for the show, in real life Kendall never trained at CADC) Jill and Kendall are, besides Holly and Nia, the only cast members who were part of the cast from the beginning and were cast members until the end of the show .
  • Kira Girard is the mother of Kalani. First she took part in Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition with her daughter and was then invited by Abby to dance with the elite team. She's been dancing there since the end of season 4. After Maddie, Kalani was always Abby's favorite. Kira became pregnant in season 5 and therefore didn't appear in a few episodes. You and Kalani are originally from Arizona, where Kira also owns her own dance studio.
  • Jessalynn Siwa is the mother of Jojo . She and her daughter took part in Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, where they also met Kalani and Kira, and was then invited by Abby to dance with the elite team. She's been dancing there since season 5. Jojo's nickname is 'Jojo with the Bow Bow' as she always wears a bow in her hair. Jess, as Jessalynn is often called, comes from Nebraska and is a dance teacher there. She left the show with her daughter in Season 6 for personal reasons.
  • Ashlee Allen is the mother of Brynn. She came to the Elite Team in the 6th season and was introduced as Maddie's replacement, as she was often on the road during that time and therefore could not dance. After Maddie dropped out of the show, Abby referred to her as the team's winning soloist. Ashlee is not very popular with the other mothers and Abby doesn't like her either, as she is more of a lone fighter. But after a while, Ashlee's relationship with the others improves. Ashlee is from Arizona, where Brynn danced in the same studio as Kalani. Therefore, she and Kira know each other from before.
  • Nia Frazier is the daughter of Holly. She has been part of the series' cast since season 1. Nia was often treated badly by Abby and, compared to the other girls, gets few solos, duets or trios and is often at the back of group dances. But since season 5, and ever since she has had success with her music career, Abby has treated her better. Nia never says anything mean about the other dancers and is always friendly to everyone.
  • Kendall Vertes is the daughter of Jill. She's been part of the Elite Team since Season 2. Kendall is not one of Abby's popular or unpopular dancers. Even if Kendall is often in the front row in dances, she hardly gets any leading roles in group dances. Kendall's strongest dance genres include jazz and contemporary.
