reception

Dances of Death (and Other Walking Shadows) was positively received by the press as early as 1990 and is now considered a classic of progressive metal. Frank Trojan from Rock Hard considers some passages of the first track to be "too drawn out" and prefers the second half of the album, on which the band "has not spent any revolutionary new ideas, but simply pressed great songs on vinyl" . Georg Heep from Babyblauen Seiten thinks that the band succeeds “like on all of their previous records, making the fast passing of the music extremely interesting with a multitude of twists and turns”, and Michael Büttgen sums it up: “This album has everything a Progmetal masterpiece must have. Great compositions, bubbling energy from beginning to end, sweeping melodies, highly qualified musicians and [...] heart and soul ”. Both Rock Hard and eclipsed magazine included Dances of Death (and Other Walking Shadows) in their respective lists of major prog metal releases.
