Danforth Foundation

The Danforth Foundation was established in 1927 and is a private and independent foundation based in St. Louis , Missouri , USA .

Benefactor

The foundation bears the name of the married couple William H. Danforth , who set up the Danforth Foundation to consolidate and expand their humanitarian work. William H. Danforth (* 1870 , † 1955 ) was co-founder and chairman of the Ralston Purina Company . He was a curator of Berea College and was posthumously named honorary president.

Like the parents, daughter Dorothy Danforth Compton and son Donald Danforth played an active and leading role in the foundation throughout their lives. Other members of the family were also involved in the activities and as donors.

Goals and Activities

The aim of the foundation is to help revitalize the Saint Louis region in order to make it one of the outstanding cities in the USA.

To accomplish this mission, the Foundation focuses its efforts on promoting economic development in the areas of biological research on plants and living things, developing the neighborhoods and revitalizing the old town of Saint Louis.

In order to raise the profile, the foundation also supports unique projects that also attract attention beyond the St. Louis region. This includes the support of the X-Prize Foundation with US $ 500,000, which announced the Ansari X-Prize worth US $ 10 million for the first private space flight.

In addition, religious activities, infant medicine and educational projects are supported. Since 1997 , the Danforth Foundation has also been awarding scholarships exclusively in the Saint Louis area.
