The lake district ( French District du Lac ) is one of the seven districts of the Swiss canton of Friborg . It is made up of the predominantly Protestant Murten region and the Catholic communities in the Upper Lake District.
The official languages are German and French.

The area of the lake district encloses the two Bernese enclaves Münchenwiler and Clavaleyres and with Wallenbuch (part of the municipality of Gurmels ) has an exclave in the canton of Bern .
An area of 2.56 km² in the Galm state forest is not assigned to any municipality and is subject to the direct sovereignty of the canton.
