history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1306 under the name Buch ; The name Valabuch has been handed down from 1340 . Since the Middle Ages, the rule of the village has been the responsibility of different families. In 1512 Wallenbuch came under the rule of Freiburg and from then on belonged to the Old Landscape (Spitalpanner). During the Reformation , the village remained Catholic and was therefore separated from the parish of Ferenbalm and assigned to the parish of Gurmels. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Wallenbuch belonged to the Murten district during the Helvetic period , to the Freiburg district from 1803 and to the German district of Freiburg from 1831, before it was incorporated into the lake district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

As part of the community mergers funded by the canton of Friborg since 2000, the village population decided on June 28, 2002 with a majority of 69% to merge with Gurmels. With effect from January 1, 2003, Wallenbuch was therefore incorporated into Gurmels .
