geography

Liebistorf lies at 524  m above sea level. M. , two and a half kilometers northeast of Gurmels and six kilometers east-southeast of the district capital Murten (as the crow flies). The village extends in the valley of the Biberen , on both sides of the stream, on the southeast edge of the Galmwald, in the northern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 3.9 km². The area comprised a section on the middle course of the Biberen, reaching in the south into the Röseliwald (canton border with Bern ), in the northwest into the Galmwald ( 588  m above sea level ). To the northeast of Liebistorf, the Biberen forms the broad Moos valley plain . To the north, the area stretched over the Grosse Zelg hill ( 542  m above sea level ) into the Nätschmattental (left side valley of the Biberen).

population

With 642 inhabitants (2002), Liebistorf was one of the smaller communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Rapid population growth has been recorded especially since 1980. Liebistorf includes the Längenberg and Schallenberg settlements on terraces north of the Biberen at the foot of the Galmwald, the hamlets of Untere Mühle ( 517  m above sea level ) and Obere Mühle ( 522  m above sea level ) on the Biberen as well as some individual farms.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Liebistorf was a village dominated by agriculture . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and animal husbandry have an important place in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in a fireplace building company. The village cheese dairy was closed in 1990. In the past, the water power of the beavers was used by several mills. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg and Murten regions.

traffic

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Gurmels to Ulmiz . The Postbus course, which runs from Kerzers to Düdingen , connects Liebistorf to the public transport network.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1271 under the name Lübistorff ; the current name does not appear until the 17th century. The Liebistorf rule belonged first to the knight Wilhelm Velga, then to the lords of Erlach , from 1599 to the lords of Diesbach and finally Niklaus Anton Kirchberger .

In 1442 the village came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase and from then on belonged to the Old Landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régimes (1798), Liebistorf initially belonged to the Murten district during the Helvetic Republic, from 1803 to the Freiburg district and from 1831 to the German district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated into the lake district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution. Together with Kleinbösingen, Liebistorf owned a joint administration from 1883 to 1982, but the coffers were kept separate.

As part of the community mergers funded by the canton of Friborg since 2000, part of the village population decided on June 28, 2002 with a yes majority of 53% to merge with the neighboring community of Gurmels. With effect from January 1, 2003, Liebistorf was therefore incorporated into Gurmels .

Attractions

The St. Urban Chapel was built in 1577 and rebuilt in 1838, keeping the foundation walls of the previous building. Liebistorf belongs to the parish of Gurmels. Some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
