history

The name of the place is historically documented for the first time in 993 as Silvaniacus , 1340 as Suaniez , 1389 as Savagny and Savagnie (French speaking), 1809 as Salvagny , 1558 as Salffenach (German speaking), 1578 as Saluenach (Carte Techtermann), 1638 as Salfenacht , 1668 as Salvenach (Carte from the Weid).

As can be seen from the first traditional form, Salvenach must have already existed in Roman times , because the place name goes, like many names in German -ach or French. -y goes back to a Latin local name type on -iacum . With this component , manors were named after their first owner in Roman Gaul . In the case of Salvenach, the first owner would have been Silvanus . Salvenach thus obviously belonged to a whole series of goods that were planned to be laid out in the vicinity of the colony of Aventicum in order to supply them with agricultural products.

On March 21, 1448 the village burned down completely. Between 1555 and 1560 Salvenach was ravaged by 14 more fires. The first French-speaking school opened in 1679 and attendance was voluntary. On April 22, 1801, 15 houses burned down again. In 1923 the public water supply was built.
