The Reichensteinhütte is an alpine club hut of the Leoben section of the Austrian Alpine Club in the southern part of the Ennstal Alps known as the Eisenerzer Alps .

location

The hut is located on Eisenerzer Reichenstein a few meters below the summit. It is a control point for the Austrian north-south long-distance hiking trail .

History

After the first path to the Reichenstein was built in 1889, the Upper Styrian section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association at the time decided to build a hut. After overcoming the financial problems, construction began in 1898 and was completed in autumn of the same year. At that time the hut offered 15 people space to stay overnight. Numerous extensions and conversions followed by 1953.

In 1977 the decision was made to rebuild the Reichensteinhütte, as the structure of the old building was in a desolate condition. For financial and operational reasons, the construction was carried out in two stages: the first half of the hut was inaugurated in 1980, the second part in 1989. The hut is constructed as a timber frame structure that can withstand wind speeds of up to 180 km / h.

The hut has been equipped with a solar system since 1988, which covers practically the entire power requirement of the hut. The Austrian Association of Experimental Broadcasters - OEVSV for short - operates a relay station in the attic of the hut.
