The Leobner cabin (also Leobener cabin ) is a shelter of the PES in the high Schwab group in the Steiermark . The PES has been struggling with renovation problems for years, which is why the hut was closed from 2009 to 2014.
Location and surroundings
The hut is located at 1582 m above sea level. A. on the eastern slope of the Polster in the southwestern Hochschwab group in the municipality of Vordernberg . Neighboring mountain ranges are the Griesmauer in the northeast and the Trenchtling in the east. To the north and north-east of the base are the Hirscheggsattel ( 1699 m ) and Lamingsattel ( 1677 m ) crossings . The Präbichl ski area is located to the south-west .
history
The first plans to build a hut go back to 1913. At this point in time, the so-called Knappenhaus was an old mining hut , the owner of which, however, refused to lease it. In 1923 it became known that the competing nature lovers were planning a refuge in the vicinity, which drove the Alpine Club to hurry. A lease agreement was signed in the same year for the hut owned by the Alpine Montan Gesellschaft . However, the leasing of the property, which belonged to Fideikommiss Massenberg, dragged on until the beginning of 1926. The groundbreaking took place in May, the shell was completed in August and the opening on September 6, 1926, following the 40th anniversary celebration of the Leoben PES section. In the following years, the roof and rear wall were repaired after the occurrence of unfavorable downwinds had been determined.
In recent years, the hut has hit the headlines again and again due to urgent renovation problems. After it had to be closed for several years due to significant construction defects, roofing work was carried out in the summer of 2013 and new windows were installed. According to the section, the new construction costs of 600,000 euros cannot be raised in the medium term. The hut was reopened in August 2014 and has been fully managed from May to October from Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays.
