The Sonnschienhütte is a refuge of the Voisthaler section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV) and is located on the western foothills of the Hochschwab at 1523  m above sea level. A. .

location

The refuge was built on the Sonnschienalm, around two kilometers south-southeast of the Ebenstein , on the north-south long-distance hiking trail 05 and on the north alpine trail 01. The southern valley location is Tragöß and the northern Wildalpen . It can be reached, among other things, via the parking lot at Green Lake .

history

The Voisthaler (Voitsthaler), a Viennese table company of the ÖTK and named after a valley in the Schneeberg area (Voisthal), had already considered building a shelter on the Sonnschienalm in 1903. In 1912, a lease agreement was signed with Imperial Knight Alexander von Leuzendorf and the construction of the refuge, which was completed in 1914, began. Due to the First World War , however, the inauguration did not take place until 1920. In the interwar period, the refuge was expanded and in 1957 it was electrified. In 1978 there was a further expansion or an extension, which was completed in late autumn in 1981.

Because the area lies in the catchment area of Vienna's second high spring water pipeline and there was no adequate sewage disposal, the closure of the refuge was considered in 1984. In 1986, with the support of the mayor of Tragößer, an agreement was reached on a sewer pipe into the valley.
