Daniel Alcántar García (born May 2, 1976 in León , Guanajuato ) is a former Mexican football player on the position of defender and today's coach .

career

Alcántar began his professional career at his hometown club Club León , where he made the leap to the first team in 1999. In 2001 he moved to CF La Piedad and after further short-term positions at Querétaro FC and CD Irapuato , he joined CF Atlante in 2004 , his longest position with four years of membership, which was crowned with winning the Mexican football championship in the Apertura 2007 . In addition, he completed four assignments on loan in the 2006/07 season with the farm team Pegaso Real de Colima playing in the Mexican second division .

In 2008 Alcántar moved to the Tecos and two years later to San Luis FC , from whom he was loaned to Querétaro FC and Club Necaxa towards the end of his active career .

Following his football career Alcántar worked as assistant coach at the Monarcas Morelia (2014), the Puebla FC (2015) and the Cafetaleros de Tapachula (2016) before 2016 as an assistant coach of Rafael Puente at the Lobos Buap boarding and at the end of the second division season 2016/17 celebrated the rise of Lobos to the top division for the first time in the club's history. After the newcomer had surprisingly finished the Apertura in tenth place, he was only able to achieve two more victories in the Clausura , ended this half-season in last place and had to return to the second division at the end of the 2017/18 season. Because the responsible Puente no longer believed in relegation four game days before the end of the season, they dismissed him and promoted Alcántar to head coach. But even he could not turn the tide any more.
