Gerhard Walterskirchen (Alpenforum 2018 - Salzburg Cathedral)

Gerhard Walterskirchen (born October 29, 1939 in Kemmelbach , market town of Neumarkt an der Ybbs ) is an Austrian musicologist .

Life

Walterskirchen was born in Kemmelbach in western Lower Austria . He passed the final examination at the public collegiate high school of the Benedictines in Seitenstetten . He then studied law, organ, school music, musicology, art history, pedagogy and philosophy in Vienna and Salzburg. He initially worked as a music educator at the music-pedagogical federal high school in Salzburg-Nonntal. In 1975 he became a contract assistant at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Salzburg . In 1982 he did his doctorate on "Organs and Organ Builders in Salzburg from the Middle Ages to the Present". Until his retirement he was an assistant professor there .
