Daniel Colonius the Younger

Daniel Colonius the Younger (also: van Ceulen ; born April 18, 1608 in Leiden ; † July 9, 1672 ibid) was a Dutch legal scholar.

Life

The son of Daniel Colonius the Elder , had enrolled at the University of Leiden on February 2, 1626 and studied law there. On June 18, 1632, he received his doctorate in law there and then worked as a lawyer in his native town. After the departure of Nicolaas Dedel (1616–1646) he received a position as lecturer of the institutes at the Leiden University and was hired on June 8, 1648 as professor of law. After the death of Daniel Heinsius , he became secretary of the academic senate in 1655 and remained in this position until his death.

He was married to Anna van der Hoeven. With her he had two daughters. After her death, he married Elisabeth van Alphen on March 31, 1648. There are four daughters from the latter marriage.
