Daniel Eulenbeck

Daniel Eulenbeck (* 1539 in Barby ; † December 15, 1595 in Jena ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Eulenbeck was the son of the Chancellor of the Counts of Barby Peter Eulenbeck. On August 24, 1548 he attended the electoral state school in Pforta . Accompanied by some of Barby's noblemen, he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on December 10, 1554 . Here he first completed a basic course in philosophy and then turned to law. He continued his education on October 4, 1560 at the University of Ingolstadt . He completed further studies in Italy, where he obtained a doctorate in law on August 22, 1565 at the University of Siena . In 1573 he became professor of the institutes at the University of Jena and became assessor of the royal Saxon court and the Schöppenstuhl in Jena. Later he was electoral Saxon councilor and professor of digests. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. In the summer semester of 1575 and 1587 he was dean of the law faculty. In the winter semester of 1579 and in the summer semester of 1588 he was rector of the alma mater . After the death of his wife, his children erected an elaborate epitaph in the Jena city church St. Michaelis , which shows the depiction of the Last Judgment.

Eulenbeck married Sophia Faber (* 1553 in Nossen; † January 10, 1603 in Jena) in 1573. There are children from the marriage. We know of these:

  • Juliana Eulenbeck got married in July 1599 with Dr. jur. Karl Starck and after his death on March 11, 1622, married Moritz Ritter (born January 11, 1584 in Franckenhausen; † November 26, 1630 ibid.).
  • Euphrosyne Eulenbeck married David von Döring on May 31, 1602 (* August 14, 1577 in Zeitz; † September 14, 1638 Bohlen near Grimma)
  • Esther Eulenbeck (born June 19, 1588 in Jena; † June 19, 1637 in Weimar) married Prof. Dr. Samuel Göchhausen (* 1577 in Stade; † February 4, 1658 in Buttelstedt) in Weimar
