Daniel Freitas Rodríguez

Daniel Freitas Rodríguez (born November 22, 1965 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a former Uruguayan boxer who was successful in national and international championships in both amateur and professional fields.

Freitas Rodríguez was born in the Montevidean Barrio Ellauri and went to school there (Mendoza y Capitán Tula). He did not attend secondary school. Freitas, father of two daughters, is divorced.

Freitas found boxing through his father Santos Freitas and his uncle, the 1968 Olympian Norberto Freitas , who both also boxed. After playing in the football department of Peñarols , he switched to boxing soon after visiting with his father in the Palacio Peñarol . His first trainer and sponsor there was José Baquero . Freita's 15-year career began in 1985. In that year he won his first junior championship as the so-called Campeón de Novicios Absolutos and represented Uruguay in Mendoza at the Campeonato Confraternidad . The coach at that time was Chino Rosales . The following year he repeated the national championship and was a South American champion and gold medalist at the III. The ODESUR South American Games , which took place in 1986 in Santiago , Chile , were also successful on an international level. In 1987, his first Uruguayan championship title followed at national level. He was also able to expand his trophy collection on the international stage by deciding in his favor the Rio - Latvia championship held in his hometown . He also won the South American Championships in San Juan, Argentina . At the Pan American Games in 1987 he was part of the Uruguayan team, but could not compete due to hepatitis . Freitas was also part of the Uruguayan Olympic squad at the 1988 Summer Olympics . There he took 33rd place in the lightweight competition. Two years later he was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the South American Games in Peru in 1990 . He made his professional debut on September 11, 1992 in Montevideo. The last of his ten professional fights, including some title fights, took place on December 18, 1999.

After the end of his career, he has been working for the Uruguayan police in the presidential security department since 2000.

On the proposal of a commission from the Uruguayan Ministry of Culture and Education as well as the Ministry of Economics and Finance on September 22, 2009, on November 3, 2009, on the basis of Artículo 1º des Ley Nº 16.031, a so-called Pensión graciable on the part of the Uruguayan Asamblea General awarded.
