Opuntia spraguei is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Opuntia spraguei grows tree-shaped and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. A conspicuous, short thorny trunk is formed. The dark green, downy, elongated shoot sections are up to 14 inches long and 7 to 11 inches wide. They are often twice as long as they are wide and have conical, green leaf rudiments up to 5 millimeters long with a reddish tip. The areoles are white, the glochids greenish yellow. There are no thorns .
The yellow flowers reach a length of up to 6 centimeters. The fruits are red.
Distribution and systematics
Opuntia spraguei is widespread along the coast of the Mexican state of Sinaloa .
The first description by Jesús González Ortega was published in 1929.
