Daniel Halévy

Daniel Halévy (born December 12, 1872 in Paris , † February 4, 1962 there ) was a French essayist and historian.

Life

Ludovic Halevy's son studied at the Lycée Condorcet , where he also met Marcel Proust , and then at the School for Oriental Languages.

Daniel Halévy commented on the Dreyfus affair , which deeply upset France. On January 15, 1898, Le Temps published a petition, which Halévy had also signed, calling for a revision of the misjudgment against Alfred Dreyfus . This petition was supported by Émile Zola and many well-known personalities from various fields.

From 1921 to 1937 he was editor of the "Cahiers verts" series. He was also an elected member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in 1949 .

Halévy is the stepfather and grandfather of French politicians Louis Joxe and Pierre Joxe .
