Daniel S. Hamermesh

Daniel Selim Hamermesh (born October 20, 1943 ) is an American economist .

academic career

Hamermesh graduated from the University of Chicago ( Bachelor in 1969) and received his Ph.D. from Yale University. in economics. He taught at Michigan State University and Princeton University . Hamermesh was visiting professor at the University of Michigan and Harvard University . From 1993 to 2014 he was Sue Killam Professor in the Economics Department at the University of Texas at Austin . Since 2012 he has been Professor of Economics at Royal Holloway, University of London .

research

His research interests include the use of time, labor demand , welfare programs , academic labor markets, and the application of economic methods to atypical items such as beauty, sleep, and suicide.

further activities

From 1974 to 1975 he headed the research division at the United States Department of Labor as Assistant Secretary For Policy Evaluation and Research . He has been one of the DIW's scientific advisors since 2003 .

Awards

For 2013, Hamermesh was awarded the IZA Prize in Labor Economics .
