Daniel McKenzie (born October 24, 1988 in Reading ) is a British automobile racing driver .

Career

McKenzie began his motorsport career in karting in 2003 , where he was active until 2004. In 2005 he competed in the Radical Sports Prototype and finished fourth. In 2006 he made his debut in formula racing and finished 19th in the British Formula BMW . In 2007 McKenzie moved to Fortec Motorsport and stayed in the British Formula BMW. He improved to eleventh place overall. He also took part in two German Formula BMW races. In 2008 McKenzie switched to the Western European Formula Renault and the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . Starting in both series for Fortec Motorsport, he finished 23rd in the Western European Formula Renault and remained without points in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup.

In 2009 McKenzie moved to the British Formula 3 Championship and stayed with Fortec Motorsport again. He started in the national class and won the championship title in the national class with 11 wins out of 20 races ahead of Gabriel Dias . In 2010 he competed for Fortec Motorsport in the international class of the British Formula 3 Championship. With two wins he finished ninth overall.

In 2011 McKenzie competed for Comtec Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 . At the end of the season he was 30th in the championship with no points. In 2012 McKenzie moved to the FIA Formula 2 Championship . McKenzie achieved second place as the best result and was regularly in the points. He finished the season in ninth place.

Personal

Before McKenzie was active in motorsport, he aspired to a career as a professional footballer and played in the youth team of Southampton FC . While he had to take a year off from football after a knee injury, he came into contact with karting, which he was also able to practice during his rehabilitation phase, and decided to pursue a career in motorsport.
