Career

Rau began his career with ESV Kaufbeuren in the 1999/2000 season , with whom he both in the same year in the league , and after two more seasons in the second Bundesliga rise. Due to the team's rapid sporting success, the defender attracted attention and was signed for the 2003/04 season by the Augsburger Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League , for which he played over 150 DEL games in three seasons.

While he was part of the Panthers team, he helped his old club from Kaufbeuren in their play-down games due to the funding license regulations . In his most successful sporting period, Rau was nominated for participation in the DEL All-Star-Game in 2004 and also managed to play an international match under the national coach at the time, Hans Zach .

With the relegation of the Kassel Huskies from the top German division in 2006, the native Bavarian moved to North Hesse . The assistant coach Fabian Dahlem , who was active at this time and who had also come to Kassel from Kaufbeuren a year earlier, played a large part in Rau's commitment. In the following two seasons Rau dominated the second Bundesliga with the "sled dogs" and won the second division championship title in the 2007/08 season , with which the Kassel Huskies again qualified for the DEL. Despite the success in Kassel , Rau was drawn back to his native city, for which he appeared in the 2008/09 season.

For the 2009/10 season , the ice pirates Crimmitschau from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga signed the defender, where he laced his ice skate for four years. He then moved to the Oberliga Süd to the Icefighters Leipzig where he was named the best defender in the league in the 2014/15 season.

For the 2015/16 season he joined ERC Sonthofen in the Oberliga Süd , where he ended his career after four seasons in 2019 for professional reasons.
