Daniel Rowland (also: Rowlands ; * approx. 1711 (1713); † October 16, 1790 ) was, together with Howell Harris and William Williams, one of the most important leaders of the Methodist revival in Wales in the 18th century. His date of birth is as yet unknown, but some research suggests that he was born in 1711.

Act

Rowland was curate in the parishes of Nantcwnlle and Llangeitho , Ceredigion . He was a gifted preacher and made Llangeitho known as a center of Calvinist Methodism in Wales. In 1763 his post in Nantcwnlle was removed from him by the superiors of the Anglican Church , which led to protests by parishioners. Thereupon he set up a Methodist "cause" in Llangeitho.

In his early years his sermons were harrowing. He put a lot of emphasis on the presentation of God's judgment . In the course of his ministry he became kinder and more focused on the saving act of Jesus Christ on the cross.

family

Well known is his great-grand-granddaughter Anne Adalisa Puddicombe ( Allen Raine ), a Welsh writer.
