Daniel Salthenius (also: Daniel Lorenz Salthenius, Salthen ; born March 16, 1701 in Markim ( Vallentuna ) a village near Stockholm; † January 29, 1750 in Königsberg ) was a Swedish educator and Protestant theologian.

Life

Treaty with the devil of January 30, 1718

The son of the preacher Lars Salthenius († 1734) had received his first education from his father. At the age of 13 he moved to Uppsala University and is said to have formed an alliance with the devil at that age, so that he should always have a full wallet. In 1719 he went on an educational trip that should take him to Germany. However, he was the victim of a robbery and had to earn his living in Gothenburg as a teacher for children of respected families for two years.

In 1724 he was finally able to begin his studies at the University of Halle , where he became a teacher at the royal pedagogy and in 1728 supervisor of the Latin schools of the orphanage. After he had obtained the academic degree of a master’s degree in 1729, he went to the University of Königsberg as an associate professor of logic and metaphysics . In Königsberg he was rector of the cathedral school in Kneiphof-Königsberg in 1731 and associate professor in 1732. After he received his doctorate in theology in 1733, he became a full professor of theology at the University of Königsberg.
