Daniel Sutermeister (teacher)

Daniel Sutermeister (born February 4, 1768 , † June 19, 1829 ) was a Swiss teacher , printer and publisher .

Life

Daniel Sutermeister was the son of Susanna Barbara Bär (1726–1795) and the butcher and guild master Hans Rudolf Sutermeister (1723–1776). He had eight siblings. In 1796 he had an illegitimate daughter. 1800 married master suther Maria Louise Porchat and had two children with her. In 1819 he married Luzia Zürcher Müller.

Sutermeister taught among other things Latin in Zofingen and was known as an "original schoolmaster".

In 1811 he founded the Zofinger weekly newspaper for town and country .

His publishing house, which was founded in the same year, published, among other things, the two-volume Chronik der Stadt Zofingen by Johann Jakob Frikart (1812), Samuel Gränicher's Historical Notes and Anecdotes from Zofingen (1825) and Frikart's Tobinium Genealogicum (1827).
