Johann Jakob Frikart

Johann Jakob Frikart (born October 27, 1769 in Zofingen ; † July 14, 1845 there , entitled to live in Zofingen) was a Swiss theologian , librarian and local historian .

Life

Frikart studied theology at the Bern Academy and was later vicar in Ins and Zofingen from 1793 to 1798 . From 1799 he worked as a pastor in Rohrbach and in 1808 founded a teaching institute in the rectory there, which was closed after he moved. From 1809 to 1845 he was pastor in Zofingen, from 1819 to 1839 he was a member of the Aargau church council and was dean from 1820 to 1839 .

He belonged to Pietism and was a co-founder of a Bible Society in 1819 , which, however, was banned by the cantonal government . He was also a poor inspector, a member of the school administration and the district school council.

As a city librarian and local historian, Frikart published a chronicle of the city of Zofingen as well as various city books in 1811.
