Daniel Wagenblast

Daniel Wagenblast (* 1963 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German sculptor .

Life

Wagenblast studied from 1984 to 1990 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Peter Grau and Rudolf Schoofs , then until 1993 German studies at the University of Stuttgart. Several trips to the USA in 1992/93 inspired him to write his first large series of works, the Yellow Cab, NY series , the subject of which was various three-dimensional depictions of the taxi vehicles that are usually yellow in the USA . In 1994 Wagenblast was one of the founders of the artist group maximal . From 1993 to 1998 he also appeared as the saxophonist in the rock band Fiese Förtner .

Since the 1980s, work by Wagenblast has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Significant solo exhibitions connected with catalog publications were shown in the Städtische Museen Heilbronn in 1996, in 1999 in the Galerie im Prediger , Schwäbisch Gmünd, and in 2000 in the Karlsruhe gallery Knecht und Burster. The sculptures are usually made of ceramics or wood, works in public spaces are made of more stable materials such as cast aluminum and bronze.

Works from the Yellow Cab, NY series and the Weltenfahrer series have been bought up by the public and can be seen in public spaces, for example in Heilbronn , Bietigheim-Bissingen , Ditzingen , Schorndorf , Barnsley (Great Britain), Spaichingen , Eschwege , Épernay (France) , Stuttgart, Hamburg, Castrop-Rauxel and PiotrkowTrybunalski (Poland).

Daniel Wagenblast has also won and realized a large number of public art-in-building competitions, such as E.g. seven stars for the blue angels in Crailsheim and Mann auf Spaten , a sculpture in Gruibingen or good day in front of the DVAM in Detmold .

Awards

Wagenblast has won several awards and prizes for his work, including 1st prize at the Young Art Competition in East Wuerttemberg in 1992 , 1st prize at the federal competition Das Atelier in 1993 , and from 1991 to 1994 a studio grant from the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and the State of Baden -Wuerttemberg, 1996/97 a scholarship from the Art Foundation Baden-Wuerttemberg as well as the award city artist 2000 in Spaichingen.
