After graduating from high school in 2001, he began studying teaching in French and sports at the University of Frankfurt in October 2001.

Daniel Zschätzsch was an excellent sprinter, but also an all-rounder with top performances also over medium and long distances and was at the top of the German speed skating ranking from August 2005 to June 2007.

He was also able to qualify for the 2007 Winter Universiade in Turin in speed skating and represented the German colors on the ice for the first time.
