Daniela Widmer

Daniela Widmer (born March 9, 1983 in Bellikon ) is a Swiss police officer, author and kidnapping victim. She came into media interest after her abduction in 2011/2012 in Pakistan by the Taliban . Her book about the kidnapping, published together with David Och , reached number 1 on the bestseller list in Switzerland.

Career

Widmer completed an apprenticeship as a clerk. From 2005 she attended the Ittigen Police School and worked for the Thun police force until 2007 . She then went into business for herself with a restaurant in Zermatt . From 2010 she worked as an assistant manager in a hotel.

In the summer of 2011, she and her boyfriend at the time, David Och , traveled to India in a VW LT . On their return journey through Pakistan, the two were kidnapped on July 1, 2011 in the city of Loralai . They were held hostage for eight and a half months before escaping in March 2012.

Based on their diary entries, Daniela Widmer and David Och published the experience report And Tomorrow You Will Be Dead: 259 days as hostages of the Taliban . In connection with their kidnapping, release and book publication, the two were confronted with vehement criticism.

After returning to Switzerland, Daniela Widmer and David Och separated. In February 2019 Widmer was mayor of Bellikon . She has been the mother of a daughter since 2015 and a couple with the father of the child.
