Dante Bernabei

Dante Bernabei (born July 31, 1936 in Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg ) is a linguist who is socio-politically committed to European commonality and understanding.

Chemist

After attending the École primaire (elementary school) and the École secondaire Lycée de Garçons (grammar school) in Esch-sur-Alzette and completing the Examen de fin d'études secondaires (Abitur) in 1957, Dante Bernabei studied chemistry at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH). There he acquired the title of Dr.rer.nat after graduating as a chemist . with a dissertation on the topic "On the synthesis of pyridine-tetrahydroisoquinolines by intramolecular Vilsmeier reaction " at the Institute for Organic Chemistry with Doz. Franz Dallacker (1967).

1967–1994 worked in scientific marketing at Merck in Darmstadt , u. a. in quality management . In this context he wrote the Merck book "Safety - Handbook for the Laboratory" and worked on various projects on safety when handling chemicals.

Linguist

In 1995 Bernabei began studying German at the Institute for Linguistics and Literature at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD). This was followed by the preparation of a master's thesis on the subject of "Systematization of [hyphenated writing] - The hyphen as a visual concept for improving communication" with Professor Dr. Rudolf Hoberg , graduated with an MA in German studies. He then wrote a dissertation at the same institute with Professor Britta Hufeisen , department of multilingualism research , on the topic: "Gargantua by François Rabelais - two-step translation of texts from historical language levels true to the original " and thus obtained the degree of Dr. phil. of the Technical University of Darmstadt.

In his linguistic work, Dante Bernabei benefited from the polyglot skills of his Germano-Francophone origins. These are complemented by a bond with the Luxembourg homeland and in particular its language, Lëtzebuergischen .

Luxembourg Circle of Friends

Bernabei is honorary president of the Luxemburg Friends of the Rhine-Main and was its president from 1979 to 1997. During this time he took care of the cultural exchange between Luxembourg and the Rhine-Main region , for example by organizing concerts and other cultural events. In the field of monument preservation, he had the monuments of Duke Adolph von Nassau added in Wiesbaden and Königstein and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg planted the "Luxemburger Linde" in Weilburg by HRH the Grand Duke of Luxembourg . His special concern is always to keep alive the diverse historical links between the two countries, knowledge of history as a prerequisite for mutual understanding.
