Rudolf Hoberg

Rudolf Hoberg (born March 10, 1936 in Neukirchen (Niederrhein) ) is a German linguist , professor of German linguistics at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD) and former chairman of the Society for the German Language (GfdS).

Life

Rudolf Hoberg mainly studied German , general linguistics and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn , Freiburg and Münster , worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn and at the Institute for the German Language (Mannheim).

Since 1974 he has been professor for "German Linguistics" at the Technical University of Darmstadt, from 1999 to 2011 he was chairman of the Society for German Language (GfdS) and from September 2007 to September 2009 he was chairman of the German Language Council , an association of the German Academic Association Exchange Service (Bonn), the Society for the German Language (Wiesbaden), the Goethe Institute (Munich) and the Institute for the German Language (Mannheim).

He has held visiting professorships at various foreign universities.

He is or was a member of the German Studies Advisory Board at the German Academic Exchange Service, the Intergovernmental Commission for German Spelling , the Council for German Spelling and the DIN Advisory Board for Terminology as well as the juries for the words of the year , the words of the year, the “most beautiful German Wort ” , the Grimm Prize for German Studies Abroad and the Media Prize for Language Culture .
