Joseph Freusberg (born October 5, 1806 in Bilstein ; † November 14, 1889 in Paderborn ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Paderborn .

Life

He was a son of the Olpen District Administrator Caspar Freusberg and his wife Maria Sophia Engelbertine Freusberg, née Biegeleben. Joseph Freusberg visited the school Laurentianum in Arnsberg and studied in Bonn , Tübingen and Paderborn theology . In 1830 he was appointed priest ordained . Afterwards he worked as a pastor in Olpe and Arnsberg. Since 1842 he was chaplain and secretary of the auxiliary bishop Richard Dammers in Paderborn. From his successor he was appointed to the clergy in 1845 ; In 1850 he became cathedral capitular .

On April 7, 1854, Freusberg was appointed titular bishop of Sidyma and auxiliary bishop in Paderborn. He received the episcopal ordination on May 14th of the same year from Paderborn Bishop Franz Drepper .

From 1858 Freusberg was provost of the cathedral . In addition, since 1842 he was Superior of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincenz by Paul Paderborn .

On his twenty-fifth anniversary as auxiliary bishop, he was made an honorary citizen of Paderborn in 1879. The honor also went to his decades of work for the poor and sick in the city.
