Danylo Kamenetskyi

Danylo Semenowytsch Kamenezkyj ( Ukrainian Данило Семенович Каменецький ; 1830 - 1881 ) was a Ukrainian ethnographer and publisher.

Life

The Hluchiw native Danylo Kamenezkyj attended high school in Novhorod-Siwerskyj until about 1852 and graduated from St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1857 .

Kamenetskyj was the head of the printing and publishing house P. Kulisch . After founding the Ukrainian scientific and literary monthly magazine Основ Osnowa in Saint Petersburg , he was involved in the organizational and technical processes of this magazine in 1861 and 1862.

At the beginning of April 1858 he met the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and was involved in the publication of his collection of poems Kobsar in 1860 as well as in many other Ukrainian literary works and popular books for the people, including by Marko Vovchok . He was the author of the collection of poems Ukraïns'ki pisni z holosamy (in German: Ukrainian songs with voices ).
