Daoud Shaw

David "Daoud" Shaw (* 1946 or 1947; † January 21, 2018 ) was an American jazz and rock musician ( drums ), who also worked as a sound engineer and music producer .

Live and act

Shaw worked as a drummer for Van Morrison for over 20 years and was also the co-producer of the album Veedon Fleece , which was released in 1974. From 1975 to 1977 he was a member of the studio band on the comedy show Saturday Night Live ; He also played in the Jerry Garcia Band in 1980/81 and as an accompanist for Etta James . Furthermore, Shaw had his own recording studio ( Radio Active Productions ) in the basement of his house , in which he recordings a. a. produced by Tyrone Brown and Shawn Zevit . As a producer he worked a. a. also with the singer / songwriter Essra Mohawk and the folk singer Kenny Butterill. In the field of jazz he worked as a musician a. a. Involved in recordings by trumpeter John Ellis ( Esperanza , 2001), singer Venissa Santi ( Bienvenida , 2008) and by Tyrone Brown ( Moon of the Falling Leaves , 2008). Shaw died in 2018 at the age of 71 years from the effects of cancer .
